Dear continental & overseas competitors,
COVID-19 had a tremendous impact on societies all around the globe. Also from a rowing point of view. In the Netherlands, we are fortunate that rowing in a team has been possible again since the first of July.
Although the situation regarding COVID-19 in the Netherlands is currently favourable, the organization of the Grachtenrace will have to consider national guidelines and local regulations, when organizing a competition. Because there is still no experience in the Netherlands with sports competitions under COVID-19 conditions, several things still need to be sorted out. For this we are in discussion with the authorities involved.
It is therefore not yet clear what it means for our competition. Various scenarios are currently being investigated for this. Due to the fact we cannot provide any clarity, we have made the choice to qualify the canal race as a national race for the time being. This means that participation is only possible for sloops and teams from all over the Netherlands.
As an organization, we will strive for a competition where you can safely participate. We hope that all of the teams from outside the Netherlands understand our decision and we look forward to welcoming you again under better conditions, perhaps next year.
For now we hope you can enjoy a healthy and sporty rowing summer.
Sincerely,
the Board of the Grachtenrace
